Our Vision is to help improve the Adivasi region/district of Kaprada. We Started with the education of girl children and are now pursuing rain water harvesting and best farming practices
Started by the K.M.Sonawala Charitable trust Shabri was envisioned by Nitin Sonawala. It was built to support and educate Adivasi girls from remote areas in the Kaprada district of Gujarat to ensure that they get equal opportunity and become economically and intellectually independent. In order to impart education and help these girls build an impactful personality, Shabri has built a 5000 sq ft. schooling and hostel facility in Kaprada called the ‘Shabari Chhatralaya’ which houses nearly 130 girls/year. All their expenses in terms of food, shelter, medicines and vocational training are borne by the trust.
when we started the hostel, their were no girls in the secondary school at Kaprada. Today their are nearly 600 girls studying their yearly. We are happy to have played our part in the educational revolution. Our next steps to enhance the experience of all the girl students is to provide appropriate vocational training to bring them into the new world of technology, meet leaders from different fields and also learning through travel.
After running the chhatralaya for over 29 years, the last few years the trust has expanded its vision to include improving the entire region in terms of rain water harvesting and best farming practices. Good water storage capacities will help the locals cultivate three crops a year, and also yield better results with each crop. The increased money would be significant in helping the entire region
